The trap: pounds of mass, pounds of force
A pound is a unit of mass. A pound-force is the weight of that mass at standard gravity. They share a name and, on Earth, a number — which is why they get mixed up constantly.
The distinction matters whenever gravity is not standard or the quantity is genuinely a force. In SI there is no ambiguity: mass is in kilograms, force in newtons. A 70 kg person has a mass of 70 kg and a weight of 687 N.
The same confusion runs the other way. "Newtons to lbs" almost always means newtons to pound-force, because newtons measure force and cannot be converted to a mass at all without dividing by gravity.

- To get weight from mass, multiply by 9.80665 m/s².
